Agricultural Education

The HVRHS Agricultural Science and Technology department (AG Ed) is one of twenty-one such programs in the state. It is rich in tradition, community support and leadership; students learn about the environment and its relationship with animals, plants, and machinery in a hands-on experiential way.   Courses provide education and career training in agricultural engineering, biotechnology, animal, and plant science. Ag Ed has a fully equipped food science lab, mechanics shop, animal barn, small animal area, aquaculture/hydroponics lab, greenhouse, and forest woodlot laboratory.

All Ag Ed students do a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). SAE projects foster personal growth, career development and responsible citizenship. The skills, knowledge, and connections gained through SAEs are a tangible learning experience with an applied purpose and measurable results.

Ag Ed students may join the HVRHS FFA Chapter of the National Future Farmers of America Organization. FFA trains students to become the agricultural leaders of tomorrow by promoting values, citizenship, and civic participation.

Ag Ed is the HVRHS home of the Envirothon and Electrathon (electric car) teams which compete in local, and state events.  The Envirothon team placed first in CT in 2022.
